Born to successful cargo ship captain Marsten Bertram, most of Karina's life had been spent almost entirely at sea aboard The Wildflower. A true child of the waves, Karina enjoyed every aspect of life amongst the crew. This lifestyle sparked a dream of leading the crew herself. A dream which her father and siblings nurtured and encouraged, and which might have come to fruition were it not for an incident near the Isles of Umbra.Karina's memory of the incident is spotty at best, but she knows with certainty that whatever happened that night wiped out half of the crew and its cargo and severely damaged The Wildflower's hull, enough that her father decided to have the ship decommissioned.Bereft of the vessel which had served as her home, Karina was forced to adapt to a life on land, her dreams sleeping beneath the waves with her crewmates.Years later, she has built a stable living for herself. Yet the sea still calls to her like the very Siren she believes to be responsible for snuffing out her crewmates' lives.

Cartographer. Being left with little choice but to adapt to a life on land, Karina was surprised to find that she had a knack for the art of cartography, and honed her skills over the course of many years. Combined with her work as a courier, one is quite likely to spot her out and about as she seeks to chart Eorzea's ever-changing landscape. Maybe your character bought one of her maps or commissioned one.Courier. Perhaps as something of an echo of her life at sea, Karina's primary source of income comes from courier work. With a special interest in and talent for delivering items of a more dubious origin, Karina guarantees satisfactory and timely delivery...no matter the cost and no questions asked (perhaps stirring up a bit of commotion along the way). If your character needs an item retrieved and delivered, Karina is eager to serve.Gunner. Before the decommissioning of her father's ship, The Wildflower, Karina served as one of the ship's gunners. From her work maintaining and operating the cannons to handling gunpowder and small arms, Karina soon became an excellent shot. Though years have passed since her days on the sea, Karina maintains contact with those of her old crewmates who survived the incident near the Isles of Umbra, and remains haunted by her lack of memories from that night. When she's not working or traveling, Karina enjoys a good drink and the entertainment of a barfight. Sometimes she starts them. Sometimes she just joins them.
